Privacy and data
We protect your personal information just like you protect a home office with thick fiberglass insulation. Your data stays with Virtually at Home. We absolutely refuse to sell your personal details to outside companies for any amount of money. We do not track you.
Read the sections below to understand exactly what information we collect and why we collect it. The rules remain simple.
Contact Form Messages
You might write to ask how to route a new breaker for a 120-square-foot room. We love reading those questions. When you use our contact form, we collect exactly three fields to understand your project. We collect your name, email address and message.
We use this information for the sole purpose of reading your questions and writing replies. We keep these for 12 months. After that exact time passes, we make sure those messages are permanently deleted from our servers. They vanish completely.
Server Logs
Building a soundproof wall requires precise cuts measured in inches and feet to work correctly. Websites require exact data too. Our hosting servers automatically record visits to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. These are basic technical details.
The server logs capture simple details naming your IP address and your browser type. The purpose is strictly operational. We use these logs purely for operating and securing the site against outside threats. We check the outlet works safely.
Data Sales and Sharing
Good acoustic panels drop room noise by 30 decibels to keep the outside world out. We keep your data inside. We never package and sell your personal information to data brokers for a few dollars. We also reject advertising shares.
The magazine does not share your details with anyone for the purpose of serving ads. Your data sits quietly behind drywall. We never strip things back to expose the bare studs to random third parties. Your privacy matters.
State Privacy Rights
Residents of some states have specific rights under US state privacy laws that we respect. California provides one excellent example. You always have the right to request access to know or see what information we hold. You can demand rapid correction.
You can also ask for the complete deletion of your records from our active databases. You hold another right too. You have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your data. We already refuse to sell.
To exercise any of these specific rights, simply write an email to alex@virtuallyathome.com. We treat everyone fairly. Exercising these rights brings absolutely no worse treatment from our writers or our support staff. We just fix the issue.
Children Under 13
Virtually at Home builds guides for adults who wield tools and calculate watts for electronics. We do not target children. The site is not aimed at children under 13 years old under any circumstances. We follow the law strictly.
We comply with the regulations defined in the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. We verify our data sources. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 who visit the site. Kids sometimes borrow tablets though.
If you are a parent and know your child sent us details, please write to us. Ask us for complete deletion. Simply send a quick note to alex@virtuallyathome.com to ask for deletion of their information. We will scrap the records.
Changes to this Notice
Municipal building codes update every few years to account for new materials and safety practices. Privacy practices change too. Whenever we need to revise our rules, revisions to the notice are posted directly here. Check this page for updates.
